Emeril's New Orleans Fish House - MGM Grand - Jan. 2008

When we were here in 2007, we didn't like it at all. But this time was a little better. If you are going to this place, and are thinking to order dessert, get the banana cream pie! You won't be disappointed.

Emeril's in 2007

Corn bread. Not delicious, as always, even if it's fresh.

Daily special: crystal fried frog legs on blue cheese, stone ground grits with lemon & herb gremolata, and creole tomato glaze, $13

My husband ordered this. I tried one bite, it tasted like chicken. It wasn't that bad. But it's gross.

Smoked wild and exotic mushrooms, $11
"tossed with pasta in a tasso ham cream sauce"

I didn't try it. I don't like cream sauce, and also there was cheese on it, which I can't eat.

Sweet potato bread pudding with bourbon caramel sauce and pecan lace cookie, $9

This was different from what I thought I was gonna get. I had different bread pudding images in my mind. This was like eating pecan pie filling. Too sweet for me.

Tres leches creme brulee with cinnamon & sugar churro, $9

Blue mountain coffee, $12

Wolfgang Puck Bar and Grill - MGM Grand, Jan. 2008

We love this place. We tried new things again. The chicken wings were delicious, some of the best I've ever had. It's very different-looking from the normal chicken wings you get, but they are good. Try them! My "banoffee" cream pie was so good, too. It's like banana cream pie + toffee. Unfortunately, I was sick this day, and I couldn't eat so much of my pasta.

Ah Sin - Paris Las Vegas (CLOSED)

We read reviews for this place, and most reviews were pretty positive, so we tried it. Ah Sin at Paris really sucks. We had awful service and food. REALLY hard to get the waiter.

I still can't believe it, it was so packed when we were here. Customers were waiting to get seated. But I'm telling you, don't go here. You're just gonna waste your time and money. We had pretty good experiences with other restaurants at Paris Las Vegas, so I just couldn't believe how bad this place was.

Their dim sum was some of the worst dim sum I ever had. We couldn't finish eating it. Same with tempura. Tempura was like what I call "American grocery store style tempura". Good tempura should look like the ones from Shibuya at MGM. I think Ah Sin needs to change the oil in their deep-fryer. Sushi was really low quality, and not fresh, you can actually get better quality sushi at grocery stores in Japan.

Sarawak Roasted Duck (salad), $10
"sliced and fried crispy with green onions, parsley and lettuce, tossed with roasted nuts and spices"

Shrimp Har Gau, $7.50

Pork Shumai, $6

Hamachi (yellowtail), $8, and 2 Tamago (eggs)
I just realized our receipt said "masago" instead of "tamago". They charged $6 x 2 for these eggs!

Spider Roll, $12.50

Shrimp and scallop tempura, $20
"with sweet potatoes, asparagus, broccoli and eggplant, served with tempura sauce"

From right to left: chinese broccoli, scallops, shrimp, eggplant, sweet potato

Orange Blossom Jasmine and Green Tea Declination Creme Brulee, $9

Yakult

I couldn't believe it when my husband said he doesn't know Yakult. Because I used to drink this every morning before I went to school. But actually Yakult was born in Japan, and recently they started selling it in the U.S. I saw this at Ralphs for $1.50 (1 pack, 5 bottles) as a "manager special" so I bought it. I think regular price was around $3.50. It's a small bottle and it's sweet, and I love it, it's I guess because I used to drink this since I was small.

Yakult helps balance your digestive system. One little bottle of Yakult's cultured dairy drink contains more than 8 billion Lactobacillus casei Shirota – the "friendly bacteria” that helps balance your digestive system and support immune functioning. L. casei Shirota can ONLY be found in Yakult and when consumed in sufficient quantities, this probiotic strain can be very beneficial for you. That's why Yakult packs so many in every bottle!

Jamba Juice secret menu - White Gummy Bear

I recently found out Jamba Juice has a secret menu, and here's the one of the secret smoothies, "White Gummy Bear." I don't know what's in it, but it was good. Next time, I'll try "Strawberry Shortcake."

MGM - Craftsteak 2008

Craftsteak at MGM Grand in January 2008. We were so disappointed with this place. My steak sucked! And they lost our order.

Our reservation was at 9:30pm. We received our bread at 9:44pm. Then we received our artichoke appetizer at 10:19pm. Then around 10:30 or so, our waiter said they lost our order and they are making our food right now. Finally we received the rest of the food at 11:08pm. Our waiter and also I think it was a floor manager or somebody, they were apologizing to us. Then I ordered my dessert, which I received at 12:15am. By the time we left this place was 12:30am. Because of the long wait and our lost order, they comped us our both entrees (duck confit and Kobe beef). Although, everything was comped by our host already. The reason we came here was because it was all comped.

Braised artichokes, $14
It was good. Big portion for an appetizer.

Roasted Maui onions, $11
Difficult to eat. No thanks!

Duck confit, $34
It was delicious. Tender, melting meat.

Black truffle puree for two, $55
Most expensive mashed potato we ever had. My husband wasn't crazy about the truffles, but I liked these mashes potatoes. But I think they put too many truffles. I'd prefer maybe half the truffles.

14oz. Kobe ribeye, $105

Toughest Kobe beef we ever had. I could only eat a little less than half of the meat. My husband tried one bite, and he spit it out. We actually asked the waiter if this is really Kobe beef or not, because it was really really hard. He said yes, but I still don't believe this was Kobe beef.

Mixed mushrooms, $21
Very goooood.

My plate

Monkey bread, $12
Yum! I think the sauce behind the bread was like a peanut butter taste.

The Palazzo - Hotel Room

The hotel room at the Palazzo. Just beautiful. We both liked everything. But what I really liked about the Palazzo room was the HDTV. When I was watching cooking shows, everything looked so delicious. Total 3 TVs, one in the bathroom, one from the bed, one in sitting area. Also Palazzo has many TV channels, including international TV channels, more than 5 Chinese, also a couple of Korean, plus Japanese and Spanish channels. The only problem with Palazzo is that the hallways are like a maze, and it wasn't easy to remember where our room is.
