Wok's Cookin' in Castaic, California. Why Chinese food in Castaic?? It's a truck stop area off the freeway. If you want good Chinese food, you always should go to the area where real Chinese people live, like Monterey Park. So I knew this place was gonna suck. The reason we tried here was because my husband was checking Yelp and I guess his friends reviewed this place or recommended it or something, and he wanted to try. But driving to Castaic and getting Chinese food was the wrong idea. It'sa small place and inside has a vintage look. It's expensive for what you get.
Everything we ordered was terrible. But especially the fried rice was the worst. The meat tasted so weird and we put all the meat in the trash. We were joking how maybe they used dead animal meat from next door (there was an animal hospital next door). Soup tasted like canned vegetables.
They also have a lunch buffet for $8.25, 11am-2pm, if you wanna try out their food. I personally think $8 for Chinese lunch buffet is too expensive as most buffet places are $5-$6 and the food is probably better.
Szechuan Chicken (comes with steamed rice) $7.95
Wok's Fried Rice (Shrimp, Chicken & BBQ pork fried rice) $7.25
Egg Flower Soup $4

Wow...pretty expensive for the small servings compared to the SGV. The top three photos looked yummy but it seems like not so. Pretty unfortunate!
ReplyDeleteNot true. I live in Castaic and frequent this restaurant. In fact, just ordered take out tonight.
ReplyDeleteI have traveled all over the World and have dined on authentic Chinese food (please -- Monterey Park?) Wok's is great and the price is reasonable too.
I tried so many Chinese food, since I was living in Asia for almost 20 years, and of course I tried Chinatown, Monterey Park, San Gabriel area. But this wasn't the one.
ReplyDeleteSince there are so many Chinese restaurants with this quality of food in America, unless you were in Asia for a while, you may not know good Chinese food from Americanized Chinese food.
I eat there all the time- it is fantastic!! The best I've found since I moved from San Diego- every one has different tastes but I took my mother and two boys there when they came to town and they all thought it was great too!!
