So my husband went to pick up the food. He said this place was located in a kinda poor area with nothing around. When he went inside, the decor was like 1970-80's and no Asians at all.
If you are looking for good Asian food, always make sure the restaurant is packed with Asian customers!

Supposed to be chicken in it, but from what I see in my eyes, I couldn't tell if there was chicken meat in it at all. I also couldn't tell what kind of meat I was eating. Somehow my husband liked it, but I hated it. I couldn't eat it after two bites.
chicken chow mein $4.55 PLUS $0.50 for noodles
I never heard of a place charging extra for noodles for chow mein. Also the meat was cheap dark meats. It's got a few broccoli and carrots, bean sprouts, and cheap parts of chicken meats. Noodles had some sweet flavor. Since I only like chicken breast, I had to put most of the chicken meat in the trash.

shrimp fried rice $4.25
There were shrimp, green peas, and a little bit of egg. Because we didn't like this at all, we actually added more eggs ourselves, and also made a gravy to cover the nasty taste.
It's hard to tell from the picture, but there was some gray color thing on the rice. Maybe from a dirty wok.
Overall, we were extremely disappointed by this place and we started feeling like we really can't trust other customer reviews that we read online. You just have taste yourself, that's the only way you can find out if it's good or not.

....uh... your food looks nasty. i'm chinese and everything you ordered looked worse than food court style food. i've learned that if you are trying something based on reviews, take a look at their pictures first, never go based on a review without pictures. i don't think you're the exception with this restaurant, that stuff looked really bad
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I have eaten there several times and have never had "mushy rice" or experienced any of the bad food your complaining about. The restaurant may not be in the best location but the food & service are both good. Just so you know this particular area is predominately hispanic, if you want an Asian packed restaurant you might want to try a restaurant on the other side of the valley.
ReplyDeleteI grew up down the street from Wongs kitchen, so I can't but feel a bit offended by the first comment (about it's location)nonetheless worth the trip to the neighborhood. Even though I now live in affluent Westlake Village California and traveled the world I still cannot replace Wongs Kitchen shrimp chop suey. My family and I have been dining at Wongs for 25 years and food is consistant and service is always exemplary. As a matter of fact the reason I stumbled onto this site is I was looking over Wongs menu online to make sure I ordered similar dishes at my local PF Changs and it's million plus decor and a bit dissapointed that it's menu is not more like Wongs.ohh and btw the bill is 100 bucks and no Asian in sight!
ReplyDeleteYou are definitely entitled to your opinions but I did take issue with some of your comments. I have also grown up in the neighborhood of pacoima where Wong's is located and have eaten their my entire life and have yet to find comparable Chinese food. All that aside the restaurant is owned and family operated by an Asian family and the same people who worked their when I was a kid are still there. As their business has grown they have taken on more help and being that our area is primarily Latino it's no surprise that some of the workers would be as well. As to the clientele, well, another blogger already addressed that. I'm sorry you were not able to share the same experiences as many of us who have enjoyed their delicacies for years.
