Specialty’s Cafe and Bakery - Downtown, L.A.
Recently I stopped by at Specialty's cafe in Downtown to get some pastries to go.
The space was huge. I'm sure it gets really busy during lunch hours.
Their pastries are big and they are around $2.50. I got coffee cake and scone. They were both not so tasty.
Peach coffee cake $2.59
Cranberry scone $2.39

Urban Dinner Socials Make and Take Cooking Class 3.23.2014
I was invited to Urban Dinner Socials Make and Take Cooking Class last Sunday.
Cook your meals with the Urban Dinner Socials was so much fun! We made salads, soups, entrees, and desserts - ten plant-based dishes, using local organic produce curated by Whittier Backyard Farms. We got to take home 10 vegan food.
- Three Hearty Salads
- Two Soups
- Three Entrees
- Vegan Party Cake
- Cashew Ice Cream
There were no recipes. you pick the ingredients and you make with your own recipe. Of course, there were helpers so no worries if you have no idea how to cook vegan food.
If you'd like to attend, next Make and Take Cooking Class takes place on Sunday, April 20.
You can purchase ticket HERE.
I posted 33 photos on facebook. CLICK HERE for pics.
We get the best, freshest organic local produce from Whittier Backyard Farms
Here's the kale salad I was making (with some helpers)
Making for 15 people isn't easy
This carrot cake was my favorite of all. I couldn't stop sampling leftovers.
- Mushroom Ma Po with Spinach, Pine Nuts, and Rainbow Chard Confetti
- Herbed Quinoa and Steamed Asparagus with Lemony Cashew Hollandaise
- Savory Crepes with Minted Butternut Butter and Roasted Sweet Potatoes
- Yam Noodle Soup with Tofu, Mushrooms, Daikon, and Greens
- Brown Rice Congee with Seared Garlic, Bok Choy, and Carrots
As you can see, I took pic after I ate half
- Kale Salad with Apples, Roasted Beets, and Creamy Cashew Dressing
- Chopped Cabbage Salad with Orange Sesame Ginger Dressing
- Herbed Kale Salad with Toasted Nuts and Rice Wine Vinaigrette
- Lemongrass Vanilla Ice Cream (Cashew Based)
