Chunju Han il Kwan - Koreatown, Los Angeles

Chunju Han il Kwan (or Chun Ju Han il Kwan) in December 2007. Located in a small shopping center in Koreatown. We had a hard time finding this place, because the restaurant name is written in Korean. There is no English, also there are a couple other Korean restaurants in the same shopping center, so if you are going this place, make sure you search a picture of the restaurant before you go.

When we were here, it was packed with Korean customers. Only a couple of waitresses speaks English. Food was great. What I was surprised by was only less than 3 minutes after we got our banchan we got all our food.

Lots of delicious banchan

marinated bean sprouts

Japchae

broccoli

oyster or squid or something like that.

kimchi

egg

tiny fish

pickles

BBQ beef (bulgogi), $11.30

red bean rice

spicy mixed casserole with Spam, sausage & noodles, (Budae jjigae) $25

We never had this casserole before. Who's gonna put Spam and hot dogs and instant ramen together in a soup? There was also Korean mochi in it. We loved it.

My menu and my husband's menu prices were different. One casserole price says $23.10, the other one says $22.20. But our check says $25. I don't get it.

Our Dinner - KFC

Our dinner yesterday. This was only my second time at KFC. Yes, just second time. Does that sound crazy to you? Well, that's one of the reasons that I can stay healthy and my husband does not. My first time KFC was about 7 years ago.

My thoughts about KFC are they are expensive and unhealthy (I guess everybody knows about that). That tiny hot wings are $3.49? That really really small chicken strips are $3.49? I know, everybody loves KFC, but not it's for me. After eating 2 pieces of strips, 5 wings, and a snacker sandwich, I started feeling so fat and unhealthy.

We had this $5 coupon which we won on an online sweepstakes.

KFC snacker, 99 cents

Really small

Hot wings 6pc, $3.49

Chicken strips (3pc), $3.49
I was so shocked how small they are.

close-up of chicken strips

breast and wings with mashed potato, coleslaw, and biscuit, $5.49

Grand Lux Cafe - The Palazzo

Grand Lux cafe at The Palazzo. It was around 9 p.m. and crowded. Service was OK, but the food was disappointing. Of course, if you compare to other 24-hour cafes, this place is much better. Huge portions.

Bread

Crab cakes with spicy mustard sauce, $11.95

Duck potstickers, $7.95. "Duck breast, shiitake mushrooms and crispy vegetables in a spicy hoisin sauce. Steamed then sauteed until crisp."

We had duck the day before at Wing Lei at Wynn, and because the duck at Wing Lei was so good this duck potsticker tasted awful to me. I didn't like it at all.

Mediterranean Mahi Mahi, $22.95. "Crusted fresh mahi mahi with roasted tomato, artichoke, capers, basil, olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Served over mashed potatoes."

New Orleans beignets, $7.50

There were 7 or 8 big beignets. The yellow sauce in the picture was really good. It tasted like custard in a "Beard Papa" puff pastry.
