A-Won - Koreatown

You've heard about this place, of course. Because this place made Jonathan Gold’s Essential 99. Me and my friend wanted to eat some sushi in the area. But it's already 10pm. Noshi sushi was already closed. We were going to Shibucho, but my friend was saying the owner has been changed and the food is not good as it used to be, also the service is not very good. So we ended up coming here, at A-won. Because it was late, as soon as we arrived, our server told us, the kitchen is closing so we have to order right away. Maybe that's why we got some extra sushi pieces.

Anyway, the food arrived very quick. Yeah, of course. I'm sure they all wanted to go home. The food was fine as k-town sushi and sashimi spot, but not the best. If I have to pay my own money, I probably won't be back. It's pricey for what you get. There are other cheaper and better sushi places in L.A.

Also I took pics of the building and the menu, but I lost my photos so I got menu pics online. I'm not sure if the prices are currant or not.

complimentary soup, tea, banchan

Tempura assortment $14.95
I started eating as soon as arrived so it was actually delicious (when I ate 10-15 min later, it was just ok, so I do recommend to eat right away) and big portion. It's big enough to share with 2-3 people. But I ate almost all.

Sushi combo (12pcs) $17.95
I didn't realized it until now but there are 14 pieces. Well, I guess we got some extra pieces. Sushi was ok, just as we expected to be.

Assorted Sashimi bowl $19.95

I didn't take pics but there were furikake rice under sashimi. Now that's interesting because usually this type of sashimi box (aka chirasi sushi) is served on plain sushi rice.  Also there were fukujinzuke (red pickles served at Japanese curry places). We were both like.. "really?"..

Tax day free food at Arby's and Panda Express

Yes, I got free food at Arby's and Panda Express. Both places are I never go unless it's free like yesterday.
And I just realized, I had 1800mg of sodium yesterday, just from those two tiny portion of the food. I am so shocked.

Small curly fries (400kcal, sodium 900mg) Oh my god... I wish I didn't get this. Are you serious? 400 calories and 900mg sodium? This is why I don't eat fast food.

Shanghai Angus steak(220kcal, sodium 910mg)
No, it wasn't so bad as I thought.

Diamond Bakery - Los Angeles

When I was walking on the street, I saw this bakery so I walked in. There were no one inside. I wasn't sure if this place was open or not. There weren't many pastries left and I didn't see something that I really wanna eat, but since I'm here, I got one bread. She gave me for $1. Normally $2 or something like that.
My bread was just ok, not the type of the pastries I like.

Some kind of yeast chocolate bread $1

pasta with bacon and avocado sauce

About a month ago, avocado was so cheap, like it was 20 cents each so I bought a lot. Since I never bought avocado or cooked avocado before, I had to find some recipes. While I was browsing internet, I found this recipe. After cooking avocado in may ways, I've learned one thing, you shouldn't cook avocado. Always eat raw because cooked avocado taste nasty.

I really enjoyed this pasta. I made 2-3 times already.

Pasta with bacon and avocado sauce   serves 1

1 medium sized, ripe avocado, pitted
1/2 lemon juiced
3 cloves garlic
1/2 tsp kosher salt
1/3 cup fresh basil
pasta
1-2 bacon
freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Bring several cups of salted water to a boil in medium pot. Add in pasta, reduce heat to medium, and cook until al dente. Drain, reserving 1/2 cup pasta water. Cook bacon and cut into pieces. Make the sauce by placing garlic cloves and lemon juice into a food processor. Process until smooth. Add in the avocado, basil, and salt. Process until smooth and creamy. Pour sauce and bacon over pasta. Mix and eat!

Market on Holly - Pasadena

Market on Holly, cute place in Pasadena. Good place to hang out after shopping at Forever 21. I came here to try their pastries, specially I wanted to try croissant. Unfortunately they didn't have plain croissant so I got chocolate croissant. They also had yummy looking bars, but after thinking about calories, I decided to not get it. Well, maybe next time. Also this place is not so cheap. My small latte and one croissant, the total came up to $6.80.

From left: wonder bars $3, S'mores $3, pecan bars $3

corn muffin, nutmeg donut muffin, savory muffin $2.75 each

Latte (8oz) $3.25
Latte was just ok. I've tried latte at so many different places, and this is not the place I wanna get my latte.

Chocolate croissant $3

To me, it was more like puff/phyllo pastry. This pastry was good as it is, but not what I was looking for my croissant.
