Pot Cafe - Koreatown

Yup, it's finally open at The Line Hotel in Koreatown. Every foodie in L.A. knows Roy Choi, and it's his cafe and you can taste his pastries for really reasonable prices? I was too excited. And Roy Choi himself was there! I wish I got to talk to him but I was really in hurry and had to run. But I'm going back very soon (like tomorrow) to get almond puff and strawberry & cream.

Most of them are around $3, which is not cheap if this is just a local ktown bakery, but it's cheap as a celebrity chef's bakery in L.A.

Roy Choi

kimchi squat $2.25
Spicy sauce (maybe sriracha) and nori on the bun. It says kimchi but you won't see any actual kimchi pieces. It wasn't spicy. Little greasy.

black sesame butter mochi cake $3
Ok, so this is hard to describe. It's not sweet. It wasn't gooey like Japanese mochi. Black sesame paste on top of doughy bar.

The Pie Hole - Little Tokyo (2)

It's been two years, I guess? I haven't been back since their opening month.  I went back recently and their pies were improved. I didn't like my first visit, but I see so many people says The Pie Hole is the best, so I had to go back and try again. I actually liked their pies. Still, $6 a slice is not very cheap specially when I got such a small slice.

Earl Grey tea pie $6
I really think they need little bigger box. What a mess.

This is probably my favorite of all. It was really delicious.

Thai tea pie $6
Coconut & cornflake crust, a layer of chocolate, thai tea. This pie was graham cracker crust and very sweet and soft texture. Probably using lots of butter and sugar. It was good but my slice was really small and when I got home, the crust fell apart, so I mentioned on instagram about it, and I got a response by The Pie Hole and they said I get a free pie.

Maple custard pie
..So I got this pie for free. It's like creme brulee as a pie.

Seongbukdong - Koreatown

Seongbukdong is a local Korean's favorite hole in the wall type of joint in Koreatown. As you can see from the picture, it's very tiny but cozy place. They are known for grilled fish. I believe we ordered Grilled Mackerel + bean paste soup set $13.99 and Marinated sliced beef $16.99.

menu is from 2012

Sushi at Blue Fish and Ice Cream at Paradis in Montrose

I'm not familiar with this area and I had no idea where to go for dinner. But my friend likes this place so I gave it a try. I believe Blue Fish is Korean owned Japanese restaurant.  Workers were mostly Koreans. The food was overpriced for what you get.

We got here around 6 and it wasn't crowded at all. But the time we were leaving, there were line and the place was packed.

menu

Chirashi $19.95

sushi: Tamago $4.50, Ikura $6.25 , Unagi $6.25

Baked lobster roll $6.95

Assorted tempura $9.50

After Blue Fish, we stopped by at Paradis for dessert.

Salted caramel (bottom) and persimmon (top)
