Los Angeles Chocolate Salon, October 11, 2009

Here's pics from Chocolate Salon in Los Angeles.

These are pics from when we first got there, it was around noon and already so many people were there.

This photo size is a bit large so it might take some time to load. Everything made with chocolate.

This pic and next one is also large, so you can see more details.

Even these shoe boxes are chocolate, and yes, you can actually eat them!

cupcakes

Chocolate + liqueur. Sweet but delicious. They actually make each one.

It's lime. delicious.

I think it was banana walnut cake

This was my favorite place.

They had blueberry, pomegranate, etc., and I tried pomegranate, but it didn't taste like pomegranate.

Bacon chocolate! It was a very new taste, it was fine. Not greasy or anything. It has popping candy in it, so after you eat, it starts popping in your mouth.

Marshmallow. I choose s'mores. They also had lemon and vanilla. It must be good, but I tried it after so many chocolates, I felt this marshmallow was too sweet and felt sick.

Bavarian creme roll and sumire pan

These are the breads I found at Marukai supermarket.

Sumire bread usually has 3 rolls and each roll has something different inside. Usually strawberry jam, custard and chocolate cream or red bean paste. Bavarian creme is basically custard cream.

Bavarian creme roll $1.39

Yamazaki Bakery's sumire pan $1.88

custard, strawberry jam, red bean paste

Plum Tree Inn - Downtown, Los Angeles

Plum Tree Inn, located in Chinatown, Los Angeles. My husband got food to go and by the time we started eating it, the noodles weren't crispy at all (of course). But I wish they had put the noodles in separate box than the seafood toppings so the noodles don't get soaked. Although, even though it wasn't crispy, I still liked the noodles. I wasn't crazy about the beef dish. The beef was soft, and I thought it had some weird taste. But my husband liked it.

CLICK HERE for pics from 2007.

Rice $1.25

Hot Spicy Shredded Beef $12.95
beef, celery, carrots.

Seafood Pan Fried Noodles $10.95

There were a few shrimp, also white fish, broccoli, carrots, snowpeas, and napa cabbage, I believe.

Yum Cha Cafe and Boba Corner - San Gabriel, CA

Located inside a supermarket food court, Yum Cha Cafe. The food at Yum Cha Cafe is unbelievably cheap! And I had no complaints with the taste. You can get dozens of different dim sum starting at 99 cents. What a deal!

All these 4 different dim sum were total $4.73! It's under $5!

I believe this is Rice Noodle with Chinese Donut $1.39
It's fried dough inside of rice noodles. This was our first time trying this thing and we didn't like it.

Shrimp Shu Mai $0.99

Shrimp Har Gow $0.99

$0.99

Peanut inside. Also I think chicken in it.

Boba drinks from Boba Corner, located inside the supermarket, by the food court.
Durian $2.99 and Thai iced tea boba drinks $2.25

My husband ordered the durian boba drink. Because we never had durian before. When I decided to try, I could start smelling it from thestraw hole. It really stinks! And I tasted, it was awful, oh my god, that was the nastiest, the worst fruit drink I ever had. He couldn't even finish drinking 1/3 of it.

Din Tai Fung Dumpling House - Arcadia, CA

Finally we happened to be in this area and we saw this place so we decided to try out their famous soup dumplings (Xiao Long Bao). They have locations all over in Asia but I didn't know that.

Their soup dumplings were fine, but not the best I ever had. I had better one in Yokohama Chinatown in Japan. To me, everything was a little overpriced for Chinese food.

The dumplings were $7.25 + tax $0.71 = $7.96.
There were 10 small dumplings. Each one was made by hand, you can actually see the people making them inside the restaurant. We waited about 3 to 5 minutes.
