Handsome Coffee Roasters 1 year anniversary block party

Happy birthday to one of my favorite coffee shop, Handsome coffee roasters. Since I was attending to Taste event in Downtown L.A., we decided to check out this place too. There was taco truck, also free samples of cookies, brownies, drinks, live music, and of course, latte! And the best part is, all free!

Hinoki & The Bird - Century City

Hinoki and the bird is one of the place I've been wanting to go and I'm just so glad I ate here. Everything was really delicious and the service was awesome.

We were sitting right next to the door to the patio, every time the door open and close, our table and chairs shakes. It's really loud and annoying.

Valet parking only (around $10) and reservations highly recommended in advance.

Full wine list is probably available online.

Nakatomi Plaza $14 - Choya plum wine, yamazaki whiskey, fresh pressed green apple
Well, the menu only said Yamazaki, I had no idea it was whiskey until I drink it.  It was pretty strong drink. I could mostly taste whiskey, couldn't taste much plum wine.

Chili crab toast, spicy cucumber, coriander $16
Probably my favorite dish of all. This simple toast had so much flavor. I wanted more and more.

Beef tartare, pickled jalapeno $15

Lobster roll, green curry curry, Thai basil $19
One of the must try dish here. They serve lobster roll with charcoal bread.

Pumpkin toast, miso jam $12
My other favorite dish. It was little messy to eat because of the sticky miso jam, but miso and Japanese pumpkin was really nice together.

Crispy marinated chicken, lemon aoli $14
Crispy outside, juicy inside

Hinoki scented black cod, sweet potato, pistachio $26
One of their signature dish here. They burn hinoki on black cod. Interesting, huh?  It's not only you enjoy with your eyes, but it was also delicious. Black cod had very nice Japanese flavor. Mashed Japanese sweet potato was also flavorful.

Latte
My latte looks like cappuccino. I guess they don't know how to make coffee drinks here. Too bad.

Matcha donuts, koji milk $9
Bite size green tea donuts coated with sugar. Very sweet.

Black sesame creme, black sesame praline, shiso, kalamansi $9

Zephyr cake, namelaka, yuzu, arare $9
White choco cake, green tea, yuzu sorbet. Unique. Good dish to end the meal.

Daichan - Studio City

You know, venture blvd is known for sushi restaurants.  Yes, there are SOOOO many good sushi restaurants every block on venture blvd. But not only sushi restaurants, there are also other Japanese restaurants and this Daichan is one of the place you can get cheap and delicious Japanese food. The decor of this tiny restaurant is very unique as you can see in the picture. The service was a bit slow, even they weren't so busy. Since our server was Japanese, we were asking about some of the dishes in Japanese however, our server was really bad explaining about the dishes. We were like.. "um... what? what is she saying? Is she an idiot? That doesn't make sense."

Anyways, other than that stupid server, everything was great. I love this place and I love the food!
I also like that you can choose rice from white, brown, hijiki, or beans. That's so many choices!

Hawaiian roll $7
Spam, egg, cucumber. Simply delicious.

Mix poki bowl $13.50
Tuna, salmon, yellowtail, snapper, served over (your choice of rice) with lettuce
Poki bowl is one of the popular item on the menu. We chose hijiki rice.

Spicy chicken $11.25
You won't believe how tasty it was. I was surprised.

Came with spicy chicken. Your choice of rice, pasta salad, carrots, green beans, watermelon
