Amandine - West Los Angeles (2)

My "must" stop by cafe when I'm in the area. Awesome tarts and danish.

Cherry tart $3.25
It was absolutely delicious.

Choux cream $2.25

Lots of custard cream inside, although I didn't like custard. It wasn't mild, it was more like soft sponge. I didn't like the flavor either.

Epi $2.45

Miroir danish $2.35

Some kind of berry jam inside. It was very sweet.

Maccheroni Republic - Downtown

Newly opened Italian restaurant in Downtown, just across from the Grand Central Market. Friday during busy lunch time, this place was empty, from start to finish, we were the only customers there. Since we were not sure the food here is good or not, so we just ordered two dishes plus salad to share.
And I must say, I actually liked the food here. Nothing outstanding, but simply good. The menu was very simple, that's a good thing. The service was also good.
Unlike the other Italian restaurant, this place doesn't serve any bread. The portion was smaller than average Italian restaurant.

menu

Insalata della casa $6.95
We started off with this mixed salad with cucumber, carrots, radish with side of vinaigrette. Fresh raw veggies, I needed that.

Daily special; Saffron risotto with seafood, cooked al dente.

Chimney Coffee House - Chinatown

Chimney coffee house offers varieties of brick toast and croissants, along with other pastries, sandwiches and coffee drinks. I tried latte, brick toast, and croissant but nothing impressed me.
I wanted to try Thai tea cream puff I saw on yelp but they didn't have it. Also Thai tea brick toast is coming soon, not yet. Too bad.

Bacon Nutella croissant $3.25

Cafe Mocha $3.75

Cafe latte $3.25

Green tea brick toast $6.50
It came with 2 scoops of green tea ice cream, green tea kit kat and whipped cream. It was very sweet. I couldn't finish them all.

Angelino Pizzeria - North Hollywood

This is one of my new favorite place to get meatballs. Not only meatballs, but I really liked marinara sauce here. I haven't tried any pasta or pizza, but I must go back and try them since I really liked marinara sauce. They had truffle pasta when I was here and I could smell truffles. I wish I ordered that. My company and the chef were talking in Italian so I had no idea but basically we got the dishes that chef suggested, so I don't know the prices. All the food we ate were good.  And desserts, they were lovely, loved them.

The only concern was the waiting time. First, they brought us salad, waited about 20 minutes. Then we waited little more than 30 minutes to get next food. I also told the chef to make sure to not put any cheese on everything. Well, I guess he forgot while he was chatting..

This place is always packed so I suggest to make reservations in advance.

*I borrowed the photo above from their website.
