Grand Central Market welcomes Viet World Kitchen's Andrea Nguyen, acclaimed author ofThe Banh Mi Handbook, on Friday, October 10 from 6:30 - 8 pm for a food tasting and recipe showcase featuring variations on the Vietnamese sandwich banh mi.
Using ingredients from Market vendors, including carnitas from Villa Moreliana, Nguyen will demonstrate and offer tastings of different banh mi sandwiches, using recipes pulled from her cookbook. In addition, several vendors will also create and present banh mi variations, which will be served the entire day at the Market as specials:
Horse Thief BBQ - smoked pork belly banh mi
Belcampo Meat Co. - duck banh mi
Eggslut - Asian omelet banh mi
DTLA Cheese - chicken liver on toast banh mi
Valerie at GCM - smoked salmon banh mi
G&B Coffee will also be serving Vietnamese iced tea.
"Banh mi sandwiches are not just a party in the mouth but also an amazing collision of cultures. In Los Angeles, there are few better places to celebrate that than the Market and downtown," says Nguyen.
The Banh Mi Handbook will be available for purchase at the event. The evening demo and tasting are free, and will be held on the Market's Hill St. platform.
